To get the concept of Formal and Informal organisation and make a comparison of it through discussion ,group activity, and evaluation through participation in group discussion

Formal Organisation, accountability, Informal Organisation, leadership, stability, flexibility

·         Formal Organisation refers to intentional structure of well defined jobs in formally organised groups.
·         Structure is designed to enable the people in the organisation to work together for accomplishing the common objectives.
·         Organisation structure is based on division of labour and specialisation.
·         Formal Organisation facilitates the determination of objectives and policies.
·         Formal organisation is relatively fixed and stable.
·         The network  of social group based on friendship is called informal organisation.
·         Formal Organisation and Informal organisation are the two aspects of the same organisation and are linked to each other.

Phase 1: Introductory phase
After the general classroom interaction procedure teacher ask the student about the groups which is formed among them. Then to lead discussion teacher should select one student from the class as a general leader and one leader from both boys and girls. Teacher should also select one student from each benches as bench leaders for the smooth function and implementation of activities in the classroom .Again teacher ask the students to form different groups as they like and ask them to list out the group members and to select a group leader,then teacher should facilitates a discussion by asking the following questions.
·         .What is the difference in formation of these groups?
·         What are the criteria for the formation of second group?
·         Which group can be easily formed?
·         How the leaders are selected in each group?
Through the discussion teacher helps the students to understand the meaning of formal and informal organisation.




Phase 1I: Developmental Phase
Then the teacher cites two cases and asks them to express their views on it.



Case 1

Electronic Solution is a leading electronic goods manufacturing company in which job position, employees authority ,responsibility, accountability etc are made on the basis of certain rules ,system and procedure and are for achieving  definite goals of the organisation..All are deliberately designed by the management.

·         Can you name and specify the features of Electronic Solutions  organisational set up?
·         How does it help the Electronic Solution in achieving its organisational aims?

Case 2

Gemini Traders is a leading Exporting company in which 200 employees are working besides the managerial staff. These 200 persons formed an Arts Club Gemini Friends for the purpose presenting the artistic talents of the employees and to fulfil their social needs.
·         Can you identify the difference between these type of organisation from the other one which is formally created?



Teacher point out the differences between formal and informal organisation by generalising their views and ideas


Phase 11I: Concluding Phase

Through this cases and with the students views teacher once again states the difference between Formal and Informal  organisation and shows the difference with the help of slides

Formal Organisations : 

Formal Organisations It refers to the organisation structure deliberately created by management for achieving the objectives of enterprise. It is a network of official authority responsibility relationships and communication follows. It is an official and rational structure.

Definition :- According to Chester Bernard , “Formal organisation is a system of consciously coordinated activities of two or more persons towards a common objectives. The essence of formal organisation is conscious common purpose and formal organisation comes into existence when persons (A) are able to communicate with each other (B) are willing to act and (C) share a purpose.”

Informal organisation : 

Informal organisation It refers to the pattern of activity interactions and human relationship which emerge spontaneously due to social and psychological forces operating at the work place. It arises naturally on the basis of friendship or some common interest which may or may not be related with work.

Origin
Formal organistion is created delebrately and consoiusly by management. Informal organisation emerges spontaneously on account of socio psychological forces operating at the work place. Purpose Formal Organisation is created for achieving the legitimate objective of the organisation . Informal Organisation is created by the members of the organisation for their social and psychological satisfaction.
